We're Too Heavy!!!
Okay, now that I've gotten your attention thinking that we're talking about being fat (which we are, of course, but I'm not sure now is the time to give up ice cream, chips and snack cakes), I can tell you that we finally got our TA. We got an email on Thursday and I've been remiss to post for fear of jinxing ourselves. We don't know when we're traveling, other than to say our agency said that if we get the CA appointments of September 25 or 26 (which they've requested), we could leave this week. The weight reference is in regard to our luggage which is 7-10 pounds over the limit, and we've repacked twice!
Being told you're going to travel to China in seven days has a way of freaking you out, raising your heart rate and necessitating alcohol! Big Daddy and I spent the weekend doing some last minute errands for Miss P, including a trip to Babies R Us to find a Pack n Play to keep Leena and the dogs from sharing each others things, only to realize that our Little Miss Piggy is too big for such a thing. So, we had to make an emergency Phone a Friend call to sister Tracy. "What can we get to keep her contained and away from dogs" was the frantic cry. Tracy and guests, in the midst of a party responded, "a high chair." There was some discussion of a booster seat, but that would mean eating at the glass table (that seats four) and the chance of Leena throwing her dinner on our area rug, instead of vinyl flooring. I didn't want Leena near glass and Lee didn't want spaghetti on the $300 rug. (Yes, I know we have so much to learn.....) So, now we have a high chair! We also got a security gate. We're certain Kaden and Sophie won't hurt Leena. We just don't want to have them take her toys thinking they're more fun for themselves. Which, by the way, Kaden did exactly that! We bought a small bag of bath tub toys for Leena and wouldn't you know it, Kaden pulled them out of the bag and tried to get them for herself. Too funny!!!
Also, while at Babies R Us, DH kept repeating his frantic mantra: "I think she's going to be a hand full." Now, I don't know if this is new Daddy speak for 'good Lord I'm about to become a Father and I don't have one clue about what I'm doing' or just his way of saying 'she looks like she's an ornery little thing that we'll never be able to keep up with!' Both scenarios are true, I'm afraid. DH mistakenly thinks it will be terrific if she's walking when we go get her. I had to quickly point out to him that what he is not aware of is that mobile children can get into WAY more trouble than those not yet walking. Then the light bulb went off.
So, now we're in full blown new parent meltdowns, hastily getting ready for the trip and event of our lives which may happen this week. It is a time of overwhelming joyous anticipation and gut wrenching anxiety both at the same time. We cannot believe that the day of becoming parents is finally this close and that we'll have our daughter with us, while also realizing that the road we've been on for near two years is about to finally end, bringing the lifelong commitment of parenthood with it. Whew! Pass the antacids!!!!!
