Parenting is like the stock market. You invest a lot with very little return sometimes. When you do hit, however, you hit big with greater returns that you'd hoped for.--Mamma

It's Daddy's Time

Last night while putting Pumpkin to bed, we did our usual routine of watching Pooh and reading books. Pumpkin picked out a few of her favorites, including a book of baby words. Much to my delight, when she got to the section about clothes and the page displayed a t-shirt and a pair of pants, she quickly stated these items were "Da-Dah's Shirt" and "Da-Dah's Pants."

Once I got Pumpkin in her bed for the night, I thankfully remembered to take the book with me and show it to my husband. Upon hearing his daughter identify him in her book, I'm certain you could have lit Shay Stadium with the smile on his face. His stoic response was, "that's great. She's starting to associate things." Ha! Daddy really meant, "she's talking more about me now, yeah!!!"

Our daughter has taken to putting sentences together, and more often than not, they include the word "Da-Dah." When she got up this afternoon from her nap, she stretched her little head outside her bedroom door and asked: "Da-Dah?" Throughout the day, it's "Da-Dah keys," "Da-Dah cah outside (car outside)," "Da-Dah Glasses," "Where Da-Dah? I don't know." I think the plan to be Daddy's Little Pumpkin is finally coming to play. Clearly, Pumpkin has caught herself a big one, hook, line and sinker!

Indeed, out soon-to-be 2-year-old is letting lose of the test-your-patience attitudes and behaviours, but when she puts a few words together like "I love you, Da-Dah" or "Thank you, Mamma," the bad goes out with the wash water. In her own charming, beguiling way, she makes you forget that she's aging you faster than the current Presidential election race!!

Do you think that's her plan, after all? Hmmmmm....
