Parenting is like the stock market. You invest a lot with very little return sometimes. When you do hit, however, you hit big with greater returns that you'd hoped for.--Mamma

The March Referrals: Not So Good News

Today's adoption lists presented bad news for those in waiting. Originally, there was speculation that perhaps the March referrals would extend through October 31 (a good span). Today's news shows that the list only goes through October 24. Based on those numbers (11 days), we now may not get our referral until June, with travel in August. There is widespread sadness on the lists as many of the November families had hoped (as did I) for a wider range of referral dates. This is the emotional part of the adoption process that is never explained, or even if it is, you don't fully realize the extreme highs and subsequent deep, ravenous lows that you experience. The rational side of me (albeit the fraction of me that is compassionate at this moment) says that we're all depressed right now. You can become a slave to numbers and dates and time frames in an international adoption. It is most definitely not for the faint of heart, or the impatient, anally controlled such as myself. China's CCAA (the official adoption site) hasn't updated their website with the official numbers, so I won't update the referral calendar until then. I just needed to vent a little, not that this had made me feel better in any way, shape or form.
