I wanted you all to see the most recent baby gift we received. This is an afghan that my Dad had made for the baby with yarn we purchased for my Mom. In her earlier years, Mom was an avid crocheter and many family babies were gifted with one of her blankets and sweater sets. When we told my parents about getting their newest grandchild, we did the announcement as a poem read in flash-card format one verse at a time with the conclusion being that my Mom was going to be a grandma again. (SHE LOVES, LOVES, LOVES babies and it was her birthday.) We also wrapped up some yarn and a pattern for her to make the baby one of her special creations. Unfortunately, Mom's Alzheimer's kept my sweater dream from seeing the light of day. Knowing how important this was to me (I'm an avid "keepsake" junkie), my loving father got my Mom to go through some old projects she had completed and found a couple of sweater sets and then game them to us. While not made especially for our daughter, they were still made by Mom's loving hands.
Now, getting back to the blanket shown here, my Dad asked around his knitting/crocheting friends and found someone to make the blanket I wanted Mom to make for us. The poor lady was recently hit by a car, so the blanket took a little longer to make than originally planned. In the end, the blanket is beyond beautiful and will look so lovely with our little girl wrapped up in it. I can't wait to picture that! This blanket is a testament that it sometimes takes more than one set of hands to finish the job, but that each hand print is indelible in the final product. This is very much like the creation of our daughter; it will have taken many hands to create her, raise her and bring her to us, and each one will have equal value in the being she becomes.
I have terrific parents and this is just one more example of the great, loving grandparents they are going to be to our baby girl.
