The Dog Days of Summer
It is indeed the dog days of summer. I've mentioned before how hot it is here and I thought this photo of Kaden about summed it all up. She is sitting at the window in my office where she plants herself most days while I work, track down adoption news, email or otherwise do anything computer related.
The heat has been pretty rough on both our dogs and they've been shedding more than usual trying to get their coats adjusted. Our chocolate lab looks like she has multi-colored coat due to the colors of old and new fur. Sophie (the lab) is more accustomed to the temperatures than Kaden simply, we think, because she was born in North Carolina. Kaden will sometimes lay in the driveway or in the yard and sun bathe, but not for long. First of all, she doesn't like to be away from me and secondly, she does not like the heat.
Now, as for this picture, this is Kaden who had just come in from outside and went to put her head on the window sill as she does most every day. The curtains being closed were of no consequence to Kaden who just let them cover her head anyway. Then, when she went to get out from under the curtains, she just sat their looking like she's playing hide and seek with herself while she panted to cool off. The whole thing was so funny I had to take a picture. She is generally a very graceful dog with a long, beautiful gate. Other times (like this one) she can be very big and clutzy.
While they can be of great annoyance to me from time to time, I must say that I do love my dogs and they bring me great joy and laughter. They have been great parental practice on a multitude of levels.
