Parenting is like the stock market. You invest a lot with very little return sometimes. When you do hit, however, you hit big with greater returns that you'd hoped for.--Mamma

Ten Hours and Counting

Well, it's a little more than ten hours until we begin our journey east. I've been up since 5:30 a.m. cleaning the house and situating papers, pills, carryons and more. I've also just taken my second gulp of Maalox and aspirin in as many hours. I tried to take a nap, to no avail. I hope I'll sleep on the plane for at least a short while, and definitely once we're in China.

Our agency informed us that Monday is the projected day of Pumpkin's arrival to us. My mind is swirling as to what those very first minutes will be like. What will it feel like to FINALLY hold her, touch her, kiss her, smell her, feel her in our arms? Will she be the happy baby of her pictures or will she be one of those that don't transition right away? Who will cry more, her or me? I'm wondering most of all what it will be like for my husband. I've kept a silent vigil of joy for that moment when he finally holds his daughter for the first time and stupendous feeling that will bring him. His face will be the candle that lights my heart for decades to come, I'm sure as I watch this life changing moment reflected in his gentle eyes.

Not much else to report for now, just trying to relax these last few hours of life as we know it now. Twelve hours to departure, two days to arrival in China, four days to parenthood. A million tears have paved the way for this moment and a million more will no doubt fall again when Yasleena Isabella Willow is finally with us. It will be like my wedding day all over again; the realization that dreams can come true in the most wondrous of ways, not when you'd planned for it, but when it was meant to be.
