A Poem for Pumpkin
Last night I finished reading "My Sister's Keeper" and the ending about floored me, so much so that I was moved to tears and ultimately a creative moment. As with so many other changes in my life, post-adoption, thoughts on many subjects are now changed. I am sensitive to things that never before would have impacted my emotions as they do now. At any rate, I had a jumbled mush of ideas in my mind for a poem for months and last night I finally wrote (what I hope to be the first of many) a poem for Pumpkin. I'll share it here for my other adoptive Mom's and Dad's. May your inspiration flow as freely.
Yasleena's Sonnet
D.E. Irons-Zimmerman; 1/28/08
You envelop me so, sweet child;
I am at once,
Void of adequate explanation;
Paralyzed with fear;
Exhilarated with possibility;
Youthful with imagination;
Enthralled with emotion;
Ignorant with bliss;
Naive with expectation;
Amazed with the opportunity of you.
I reflect in awe,
The sadness of what you could have been,
The rare artifact that you are,
The tapestry you will be,
The miracle that I have so graciously been privileged to be a part of.
