DH was holding Pumpking over the weekend while I spoon fed her and he was insistent that I mention this in my next blog entry. "Tell them this is the way to feed them when they're antsy," he said. "It's a two person job," he added. This is just one example of how Daddy loves being involved in the care of our daughter. I am so lucky for this. When DH comes home he takes over playtime and attention duties while I finish fixing dinner. He also helps me bath the baby and puts her toys away while I am putting her to bed. Then, best of all, if she gets up in the night, he gets up with her and gives her a bottle or changes her diaper.
I recently asked my husband, "you're totally enamored of this child, aren't you?" He responded, smiling, that he thinks she's just the cutest baby in the world and reminded me how he had never really wanted children and can't believe he's now a Dad and how wonderful it is. Indeed.
I love watching my husband with Pumpkin because he so often just laughs out loud at the things she does and sometimes he go professorial on me and comments on her actions as if he's writing a paper. Mostly, I laugh because, this being his first child and first real exposure to a baby is just an eye-opening experience for him on many, many levels. Things that he thinks are just amazing are really common place baby activities, but I won't tell him that; let him have his moments.
Pumpkin is very lucky to have her Daddy who is so much in love with her. He often asks aloud what she's going to be when she grows up. The latest predictions are a Harvard graduate, Olympic athlete (most likely in marksmanship), Republican leader and general caretaker to her old/aging folks. He calls her Bonzai Baby and Roughneck because her size and inhibitions make her fearless.
