Parenting is like the stock market. You invest a lot with very little return sometimes. When you do hit, however, you hit big with greater returns that you'd hoped for.--Mamma

Another Week Begins

Another week begins and we're not much closer to our daughter. Referrals for July may come as early as this Friday, but are expected closer to the 9th. RQ and her band of confidants has yet to report any rumors of how far the batch will go, so we're on standby mode right now. I'm doing my best to not hover over the site, but with no news from anywhere else, there's no ignoring it. As has been often said, RQ is a roller-coaster ride, but it's the only one in town, so I'm constantly on board and holding on for dear life!

In related news, our neighbors finally are celebrating their own "gotcha day" with the arrival of their first child, a son who I think they've named Adam. They adopted domestically and were joking that we'd get our child first (they've been waiting for about two years, I think). Thankfully, they are now very proud (if not completely exhausted) parents. Lee and I have yet to see the baby, but I know it's on our agenda for the near future. Needless to say he is the talk of our cul-de-sac! We are extremely happy (if not a little jealous) of them.

This past weekend we received our second notice from the USCIS (immigration) that our adoption application has been approved by the US government and the consulate in China. This is a technicality of sorts, but we needed this notification just the same. Now, if only we had the child to adopt and take to that consulate. Hmmmmmmmm.

Also in "mail" news, DH got a belated Father's Day card from his step-son today which proved a delightful surprise. Our Monday was otherwise quite crappy (no pun intended) in that we awoke this morning to our Miss Kaden (the Chesapeake Bay Retriever) having had accidents in her cage and all over the garage last night and early this morning. I don't know if she's trying to prepare me for dirty diapers or what, but I can tell you dog poo is not a pleasant experience at any time, let alone first thing in the morning! Then, it stormed all afternoon, with lightening that at one point made the windows rattle. Our little Miss Sophie doesn't like storms, so I had to prepare dinner with a third leg attached to me in the form of our Chocolate Lab. By the grace of God I didn't trip over her and knock myself out. Oh, and the other half of Kaden's illness involved throw-up in our dining room. So, I scrubbed carpet this afternoon, too.

So, to have a nice little card arrive made this otherwise crappy Monday nice. I know that DH was surprised and happy about it. It's nice when your kids remember things like that. Why, that's another bonus to Motherhood in my book: I now have a spy for gifts at Christmas and a little soldier to tell Daddy what to get Mommy on all other holidays and occasions. It's a win-win in my book. It's a trade-off for all the sleepless nights, missed showers, bags and circles under the eyes and the other wonderfully depraved things that Mother's suffer through...at least for the first 20-30 years.

Until next time....
