Good Night and Godspeed, Uncle Leo

I learned this evening that my Great Uncle, Leo passed away and I pray his journey home is done. Uncle Leo was on the U.S.S. Arizona when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor, however he humbly never got his medals until about ten years ago when his children petitioned the Navy for them. When asked why he never wanted his just rewards, he said, 'that's not why I joined the military. I was just serving my country.' Like the soldiers of today, our country and our family owes a debt of gratitude to the Uncle Leo's of the world who make it safe enough here at home to bring my daughter here to grow and live. God bless and keep you, Uncle Leo. You will be missed.

P.S. Say hello to that feisty Aunt Evelyn, will you? I'm sure you've got a lot of catching up to do with one another.
